And So It Begins...

Everything must start somewhere, right? So, here's where hockey and crochet meet again. My younger son has his first travel hockey supervised scrimmage against another team and we have to get up in 5 hours. I can't sleep being nervous since he'll be using his new skates we got today for the first time during the scrimmage (he is persistent and when his mind is set, it's set) so here I am starting my blog about hockey and crochet.

My mom taught me to crochet when I was about 10 yrs old. So yes, I've been crocheting for over 30 years, but of course other hobbies and interests and having children over the years took me away from my favorite hobby at times. Now that my youngest is going to be 8 and we sit at the hockey rink for hours at a time during the week I picked back up my old and nearest and dearest to my heart hobby again and here I am.

Of course I have no pictures of crochet from when I was young because who thought of keeping a copy of everything you made and gave to some back then, but thanks to learning to do so in my 20's and then the imergence of digital photography I have a pretty good record of what I have made from who, so I figured I'd start my blog by sharing what I have pictures of. Some quality isn't that great since I took a digital picture of a picture, but a record nonetheless.

Here's the start of the pictures. Enjoy! Let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking!

Change in gifting plan

This pattern is Checks In Afghan Stitch that I modified the pattern to make the checks 1/2 the size and made a baby afghan. You start with 4 entralac squares in the center and work in rounds so you are connecting the blocks as you go along and growing the afghan from the middle out. It was made in 1990 knowing my SIL was due in January 1991. I had never seen blues and pinks in such shades before and fell in love with it so much that instead I made her a new afghan for the baby shower and put this away in my mom's hope chest for someday when I had children. Little did I know that in July 1991 I would myself be excepting and using it sooner than later. My kids both still use it in the car to over up when it's chilly or they are tired.

I did alot of crocheting while I was pregnant with my first son. He was born in March of 1992, so 1991 was a busy crochet winter.

Houndstooth Afghan Pattern given to me by my Aunt Josie and adaptable to baby, toddler or adult size. This afghan is reverisble. The pictures show the full afghan but also closeups of the two sides with comparison to the other.

My first filet afghan made for Dalton. I love this graph and it looks wonderful done in any color.
Here is the full aghan and also closeups of the individual blocks.

Two simple shell afghans for my little boy to be...

Easter 1993

My first graph-ghan in single crochet changing all colors as I went along. This was made for my son Dalton's 2nd Easter.
